The Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT)
CSAT is a center within the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), which is a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). CSAT promotes the quality and availability of community-based substance abuse treatment services for individuals and families who need them.
Referral to specialized treatment is provided to those identified as needing more extensive treatment than offered by the SBIRT program. The effectiveness of the referral process to specialty treatment is a strong measure of SBIRT success and involves a proactive and collaborative effort between SBIRT providers and those providing specialty treatment to ensure access to the appropriate level of care.
